IIPL kicked off its first academic event in collaboration with the CNNIC. On June 4, 2009, the International Seminar on Development of the Domain Name System: China and ICANN was held in Beijing Kerry Center. This is the first international seminar in China to discuss the domestic and international governance regime of  the critical Internet resources, particularly domain names. Prof. Hong Xue chaired the seminar and successfully monitored the vigorous discussions and debates between the panel and the audience, particularly on implementation of variants of IDNs and 3-character requirement for new gTLD strings. The Vice President of ICANN, Chair of ccNSO and Senior Director of IDN Program joined the seminar and made presentations along with the speakers from Switzerland, Denmark, Brazil and China. More than one hundred college students, academics and professionals from domain name industry attended the seminar.
